Behaviour Management
is probably the most challenging part of teaching for new teachers and continues to be a challenge throughout the teaching career. With the diversity of students we have in our classes, there are always new challenges in managing the classroom and students' behaviour. Being confident in our ability to do this effectively is what we strive for. The key points in this website are taken from a combination of my own experiences as a school student, parent, teacher of adult students and a student teacher in the Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching (Primary) with CQ University, and by researching the theories and practices of behaviour management by professionals in this field. I have focused on the theories and strategies offered by relevant literature and current research that I value as being the ones most reflective of my values and beliefs as a teacher.
Education QLD has developed 'The Code of School Behaviour', which outlines the rights and responsibilities of students, teachers and parents in state school communities across QLD.
"School communities use The Code as a basis for providing:
positive support to promote high standards of achievement and behaviour
Taking this into account, this website has been designed to provide strategies and a model of good classroom management practice based on mutual respect between students, teachers and parents, with an emphasis on developing positive relationships, providing an environment that promotes positive attitudes to learning, and learning experiences that are meaningful and valued by all involved.
